IVIG, Pre-medications and Driving

Pre-medications are often used for IVIG infusions for those who have CIDP neuropathy. Pre-medications can often cause drowsiness in many people. Pre-medications are the kinds of medications you must take before IVIG. These include analgesics like acetaminophen and antihistamines like Benadryl.

For this reason, IVIG and driving on your own isn’t always the best idea. As a matter of precaution, you are encouraged to have someone drive you to and back from your infusion treatments. If you have no choice, make sure to inform your infusion nurse before your appointed date so that plans can be adjusted accordingly.
